Suggested Audience:
This course is recommended to anyone responsible for the mechanical and/or electrical plan review or inspection of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for residential, commercial or industrial applications. Included are municipal building code officers, mechanical and electrical plan reviewers/inspectors, third party inspectors, fire fighter code administrators and any other private or municipal officials responsible for the plan review and inspection of practical, safe, code-compliant installations of Solar PV.
PECO will be on hand to explain their process and answer any questions around interconnection, both within and outside PECO territory.

Course Description:
This course is intended for code officials and other individuals responsible for the planning review and inspection of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
The course will introduce students to solar PV system operation, components, design and recommended practices, and go in-depth to codes applicable to these systems. Code emphasis will be on the National Electric Code (NEC) article 690 (solar PV systems), but will also cover NEC 250 (grounding), 310 (conductors for small commercial), and 705 (interconnected electric power production sources).
Additional discussions include plan review, best practices, project safety and recommendations for on-site inspection. A virtual tour of actual installations is also presented. Any students having personal copies of the current International Residential Code (IRC), International Building Code (IBC) and/ or the National Electrical Code (NEC) are encouraged to bring them to class for reference and highlighting.
About the Presenters:
Sal DePrisco - Sensible Technical Solutions
Within the solar PV world, Mr. DePrisco is responsible for the design of more than 300 systems ranging in size from 1.4kW to 1.5MW. He is a voting member of both MSEIA and PASEIA and also co-chairs the Technical and Ethics Committee Chair for PASEIA. He is a contributor to the Solar Energy Initiative of the Chester County Economic Development Council and is an member of the Solar Working Group. DePrisco has worked with the three main producers of roof membranes to assure warrantees with solar PV systems, has worked with all major technologies of solar panels, is a PA State DEP approved trainer and has provided training to more than 2000 firefighters. He has been quoted on/ in: Fox29 News; Philadelphia Inquirer; Philadelphia Magazine; Good Morning Philadelphia; and various websites.
In total, he has in excess of 25 years of engineering experience, 30 years of roofing experience, 25 years of project management experience and 25 years of “Green” engineering.
Kevin Wright - United Management and Consultants
Kevin joined United Management and Consultants in 2010 extensive experience in Renewable Energy systems, in particular, Photovoltaic Systems. He has 15 years of electrical based experience, with 10 years focused in the renewable energy sector. His duties require him to be a licensed electrical inspector in PA and NJ. With UIA Kevin performs NEC based electrical inspections and consultation services for the Photovoltaic industry. Until recently, Kevin had been working as a Training Specialist and Lead Inspector for New Jersey’s Clean Energy program.As a part of his position he managed the technical review process for the inspection team, insured program compliance and safety adherence for all program installations, and conducted regular installer training and support.
In the past four years, Kevin has completed over 1000+ photovoltaic program inspections and project reviews. Kevin has developed his electrical knowledge as a licensed master electrician in municipalities in Pennsylvania and New York. As the previous owner of an electrical contracting firm, Kevin has installed many photovoltaic solar systems and multiple wind turbines.
